Pitch

Also searched as: pitching, pitch shot, approach, lob

A short, high shot to the green. The ball flies most of the way and stops quickly after landing.

The pitch helps when an obstacle such as a bunker lies between ball and flag, or when there is little green to roll on. It is usually played with a wedge, a club with plenty of loft.

A particularly high, steep pitch is called a lob. Because the ball lands steeply, it often leaves a ball-mark on the green that you should repair.
