Rule 13.3
Ball overhanging the hole
Also searched as: 10-second rule, ball on the lip, ball hanging over the hole, lip of the hole
If part of your ball hangs over the lip of the hole, you may walk to the hole and then wait ten seconds to see whether it falls in.
In the end a late drop gains you nothing: with the penalty stroke, your score is the same as if you had tapped the ball in.
Step by step
- 1Walk to the hole without delay. That time is allowed on top.
- 2Wait ten seconds. If the ball falls in during that time, it is holed with your previous stroke.
- 3After that, hole out. If it falls in after the ten seconds, it is holed, but you add one penalty stroke.
