Slice

A shot in which the ball curves sharply to the right in the air. For left-handers it is the other way round.
A slice happens when the clubface is open relative to the swing path at impact, often combined with an out-to-in swing. The ball gets sidespin and curves.
A gentle, intended curve in the same direction is called a fade. The opposite is the hook. If a slice is heading for the boundary, play a provisional ball.
