Rules question · Rule 9.4b · Hard

Ball comes to rest against my club on the ground: what now?

Your shot up the slope is too short. The ball rolls back and comes to rest against your club, which you had put down there. When you pick up the club, the ball rolls a little further. What is the ruling?

Answer

No penalty, you replace the ball on the spot where it lay against the club

It costs nothing that your ball was accidentally stopped by your own club. It is also no penalty that it moves when you remove the club. But the ball must be replaced on the spot where it lay. If it will not stay there without the club, you place it on the nearest spot where it will stay, not nearer the hole.
