Golf term

Gross and net

Also searched as: gross score, net score, gross competition, net competition

Gross is your score with every stroke played. Net is the same score after your handicap strokes are deducted.

An example: you take 98 strokes and your Course Handicap is 24. That is 98 gross and 74 net.

Competitions usually have both. The gross winner is whoever played best. The net winner is whoever played best relative to their Handicap Index, so a high-handicap player can win too. Whether one player can win both prizes is set in the terms of the competition.
