Rule 3.3

Stroke play

Also searched as: strokeplay, medal, medal play, counting strokes

You count every stroke and every penalty stroke over the whole round. The player with the fewest strokes wins.

In stroke play you must hole out on every hole. Your marker records your scores on the scorecard, which you check and return at the end.

The general penalty is two penalty strokes. Variations of stroke play are Stableford, where you collect points, and Maximum Score, where each hole has a maximum number of strokes. Once you reach it, you may stop. Your score for the hole is then the maximum, without penalty.
