Can I clear the relief area before dropping?
Before dropping in your relief area, you clear away small stones and loose leaves there. What is the ruling?
Answer
No penalty
You may remove loose impediments from the relief area before you drop or place a ball. The restriction only applies when you must replace a ball on a specific spot. Anything that is not loose, such as grass or uneven ground, you must not alter.
