Preferred lies: do they apply in the rough?
In winter your course uses the Local Rule for preferred lies in its usual form. Your ball lies in the rough, just a yard from the fairway. May you use preferred lies?

No, it only applies to closely mown areas
The Model Local Rule allows preferred lies only in the general area cut to fairway height or less. In the rough you play the ball as it lies, even just off the fairway. What exactly applies is set out in your club’s Local Rule.
