Preferred lies: can I place the ball more than once?
Preferred lies are in effect on the fairway. You place your ball on a new spot and let go of it. Then you do not like the lie after all. May you lift it again and place it differently?

No, once you have placed it and let go, it is in play
You may use preferred lies once. When you have placed the ball and let go of it intending it to be in play, it is in play. Lifting it again is a breach. Only if you later take relief under another Rule may you use preferred lies again.
