Rules question · Rule 5.7a · Medium

Lightning: can I stop playing on my own?

A thunderstorm is approaching and you can see lightning. The Committee has not suspended play yet. May you stop playing yourself?

Answer

Yes, if you believe there is danger from lightning, but you must report to the Committee as soon as possible

You may stop play if you reasonably believe there is danger from lightning. You must report to the Committee as soon as possible, otherwise you are disqualified. In stroke play you must not simply stop for other reasons.
