Rules question · Rule 3.2b · Expert

Can my caddie concede a putt?

In match play, your caddie calls out to your opponent: “That’s good.” Your opponent then lifts their ball. You yourself did not want to concede the putt. What is the ruling?

Answer

The concession is not valid. Your opponent replaces the ball without penalty and must putt, unless you then concede

Only you may concede, not your caddie. Their concession is not valid, but there is no penalty for it. Because your opponent reasonably took the concession seriously, they replace their ball without penalty.
