Rules question · Rule 1.2a · Easy

Did not replace my divot: is there a penalty?

After your stroke from the fairway, you simply leave the divot lying there. Do you get a penalty?

Answer

Not under the Rules of Golf, only if the Committee has set one in a Code of Conduct

Replacing divots, smoothing bunkers and repairing ball-marks are part of the spirit of the game, but the Rules give no penalty for failing to do so. The Committee may set penalties in a Code of Conduct. It may disqualify a player only for serious misconduct.
