My phone rings during another player’s stroke: is there a penalty?
Your playing partner is just starting their swing when your phone rings. They are startled and mishit the shot. What do the Rules say?
Answer
The stroke counts and you get no penalty
A stroke that has been made counts, even if the player was distracted. There is no right to replay it. The Rules do ask you not to distract other players, but they set no penalty for it. Penalty strokes apply only if the Committee has set them in a Code of Conduct, for example for ringing phones. So: put your phone on silent.
