Local Rule E-5 after playing a provisional ball: is that allowed?

Local Rule E-5 is in effect on your course. From the tee you played a provisional ball, which is in the rough. You cannot find your original ball. May you drop under E-5 for the original ball instead of continuing with the provisional ball?

Answer

No, once you have played a provisional ball, E-5 no longer applies to the original ball

E-5 is mainly meant to save time when no provisional ball has been played. If you have played one, you may no longer use E-5 for the original ball. But if you cannot find the provisional ball either, you may use E-5 for it.
