Distance-measuring devices banned: can I use a golf app?
In a competition, Local Rule G-5 prohibits electronic distance-measuring devices. You check a golf app on your phone to see how far it is to the putting green. What is the ruling?

Two penalty strokes, and disqualification for a second breach
G-5 prohibits obtaining distance information with an electronic device, and that includes an app on your phone. The first breach gets the general penalty, the second disqualification. You may still use distance markers on the course and printed course guides.
