Can I lift a ball in a penalty area to identify it?
A ball lies in the water of a penalty area and you are not sure it is yours. May you lift it out to check?

Yes, after marking its spot, then you replace it
You may lift a ball to identify it anywhere on the course, including in a penalty area or a bunker. Mark the spot first and replace the ball afterwards.
