Ball found just before the search time ends: how long to identify it?

After searching for two and a half minutes, you spot a ball high up in a tree but cannot tell straight away whether it is yours. How much time do you have to identify it?

Answer

A reasonable time, normally up to one minute, even beyond the three minutes

If a ball is found close to the end of the search time, you are allowed a reasonable time to identify it, normally up to one minute. If it then turns out not to be yours, your ball is lost and you may not search any further.
