Rules question · Rule 14.1a · Expert
Left my ball-marker in place when putting: is there a penalty?
You replace your ball on the putting green but forget to remove your ball-marker, and you putt. What is the ruling?
Answer
One penalty stroke
If you marked the spot with a ball-marker, you must remove it before making a stroke. Otherwise you get one penalty stroke. The putt still counts and you play on from where the ball came to rest.
