Can I feel with my hand whether the putting green is wet?
Before your putt you place the palm of your hand on your line of play to feel how wet the putting green is. What is the ruling?
Answer
No penalty
Only two actions are banned for testing the putting green: rubbing the surface and rolling a ball. Placing your hand on it to check the wetness is allowed, even though you are testing the putting green. If you roughen the grass to find out which way it grows, you get the general penalty.
