Maximum score: can I stop once I reach the maximum?

In a competition with a Maximum Score of 9, you count no more than nine strokes per hole. On a par 5 you have taken nine strokes and are not yet in the hole. What is the ruling?

Answer

You may stop, and your score for the hole is 9

In Maximum Score the Committee sets a maximum for each hole. Once you reach it, you may stop. Your score for the hole is the maximum, even without holing out. There is no penalty.
