Can I push the ball when putting?
On a short putt you push the ball into the hole with the bottom edge of the putter head, like a billiards shot. What is the ruling in stroke play?
Answer
Two penalty strokes, and the stroke counts
You must fairly strike the ball, with only momentary contact between club and ball. Pushing, scraping or scooping is prohibited. In stroke play the stroke still counts, and you get two penalty strokes on top.
