Two breaches before one stroke: how many penalties?
In stroke play, you take relief from a path just short of the putting green and drop in a wrong place by mistake. Without realising it, you then remove sand on your line of play on the fringe and play the ball. How many penalty strokes do you get?
Answer
Two
If you breach Rules several times without a stroke in between and without becoming aware of a breach, you get only one penalty, the higher one if they differ. Removing sand in the general area and playing from a wrong place each carry the general penalty, so together it is two penalty strokes once.
