Rules question · Rule 11.2 · Expert

Another player deliberately stops my moving ball: what now?

In stroke play your ball is rolling towards a pond. Another player deliberately stops it with their foot before it reaches the water. What is the ruling?

Answer

They get two penalty strokes, and you estimate where your ball would have come to rest

Anyone who deliberately stops a ball in motion gets two penalty strokes. You do not play your ball as it lies: you estimate where it would have come to rest and drop within one club-length of that spot. If it would have ended up in the pond, you may instead take penalty area relief straight away, with one penalty stroke.
