Rules question · Rule 8.1a · Medium

Can I break off a branch that is in my way?

A low-hanging branch interferes with your backswing. You break it off before your stroke. What is the ruling?

Answer

Two penalty strokes

You must not break, bend or move growing or attached objects such as branches if this improves your swing, stance or line of play. This also applies to a dead branch still attached to the tree. If the branch breaks during your backswing and you go on to make the stroke, there is no penalty.
