Moved my ball-marker aside and forgot to move it back: what is the penalty?
At another player’s request you moved your ball-marker one putter-head length to the side. Later you forget to move it back and putt from the moved spot. What is the ruling in stroke play?
Answer
Two penalty strokes, because you played from a wrong place
You must move a moved ball-marker back exactly before replacing your ball. If you putt from the moved spot, you play from a wrong place. That costs two penalty strokes in stroke play, even if it was a mistake.
