Asked to lift my ball: can I play first instead?
In stroke play another player asks you to lift your ball because it lies on their line of play. May you play first instead?

Yes, in stroke play that is allowed
In stroke play you may play first instead of lifting. If you lift the ball, you must not clean it off the putting green and must replace it on its spot. If you refuse to lift or play and the other player then makes a stroke, you get the general penalty.
