Unplayable in a bunker, back to where I last played: how many penalty strokes?
Your ball lies unplayable in a greenside bunker, right under the lip. You want to go back to the spot on the fairway from where you played into the bunker. How many penalty strokes does that cost?
Answer
One
Stroke-and-distance relief is also one of the normal options in a bunker and costs one penalty stroke. Only back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker costs two penalty strokes. For lateral or back-on-the-line relief with one penalty stroke, you must drop in the bunker.
