Unplayable ball: how far can I drop to the side?

You decide your ball is unplayable and take lateral relief. How big is your relief area?

Answer

Two club-lengths from the spot of the ball, not nearer the hole

For lateral relief for an unplayable ball, you measure two club-lengths from the spot where your ball lies. The relief area must not be nearer the hole. A good lie is not guaranteed.
