Unplayable: dropped ball rolls into a bunker: what now?
Your ball is unplayable in the general area next to a bunker. You take lateral relief, and your relief area extends into the bunker. The dropped ball first touches the grass and then rolls into the bunker, still inside the relief area. What is the ruling?
Answer
You must drop again
For lateral relief from an unplayable ball, the relief area may be in any area of the course. If it covers more than one area, the ball must come to rest in the same area it first touched when dropped. Here that is the general area, so you must drop again. Only after the second attempt fails do you place the ball.
